Senate on Tuesday confirmed two nominees sent to it by President Muhammadu Buhari as justices of Nigeria’s Supreme Court. The new Supreme Court justices are Ejembi Eko who hails from Benue State and Amina Augie who is from Kebbi Kebbi State.
The Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters had earlier screened the nominees before presenting its report to plenary on Tuesday. Senator David Umoru, Chairman of the Committee, told his colleagues that his committee found the nominees worthy to be elevated to the country’s apex court. He said the committee received no petition against them. He said they carefully scrutinized the nominees.
His briefing of the Senate opened the way for voting which overwhelmingly favoured the confirmation of the nominees as Supreme Court justices.
