The Nigerian Air Force Games is set to begin next week Monday in Katsina State with 750 athletes expected to participate in the event.
Before the kick-off ceremony however, elimination football matches are to be played this weekend to streamline the number of participating teams.
Speaking yesterday at a press conference, Chairman of the Games Organising Committee, Air Commodore Charles Oghomwen, said the games would last from 24 to 29 of October.
Oghomwen said of the 750 athletes expected to participate, 250 of them would be females while the rest 500 are males.
He said the games would feature of five teams, while 13 events would feature during the competition, with all of them on medal scoring basis.
He identified games to be featured to include athletics, basketball, badminton, cross-country,football, golf, handball, squash, swimming, table tennis, volley ball and wrestling.
Oghomwen said some telecommunication companies have indicated willingness to sponsor the event, with the Katsina State Government also to be involved in the organisation.
He said at end of the games, prizes and medals would be awarded to first, second and third winners.
The LOC chairman also said that a trophy would be awarded to the best sportsman and winning command.
He said staff from state sports council would handle officiating the games to ensure fairness, but that they are expected to apply regulations that meet international standard.
He said the committee was also working with the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports to assist in other technical areas.
