Amaechi denies approaching Justice Okoro to influence any case, but did not say whether he’s ever visited the man’s house

Transport Minister, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi has denied forcefuly the allegation that he approached Justice of the Supreme Court, Inyang Okoro to help him influence any case in the Supreme Court. He threatened to institute a legal action against the judge.

Amaechi, in a statement by his media office, described the allegation by the judge as a figment of his imagination.

“This accusation from Justice Okoro against Amaechi is a figment of his imagination, concocted to obfuscate and politicise the real issues for his arrest and DSS investigation of allegations of corruption against him.

“The claims by Justice Okoro against Amaechi are blatant lies, bereft of any iota of truth or even logic. Amaechi did not, and has never approached Justice Okoro in respect of the cases Okoro mentioned or any other case.

“This is a cheap attempt, albeit,  political move to drag the name of Amaechi into something he knows nothing about.

“Justice Okoro should face his issues and leave Amaechi out of it.  He will be hearing from our lawyers,” the statement reads.

Justice Okoro was among the judges arrested on Saturday 8th October, by agents of the Department of State Services, over allegations of corruption and abuse of office.

Then on October 17, the Supreme Court justice wrote a letter addressing the Chief Justice of Nigeria who is the head of the nation’s judiciary. In the letter, Justice Okoro accused Rotimi Amaechi of coming to his house earlier in 2016 when litigations over 2015 elections were still at the Supreme Court awaiting final adjudication. Justice Okoro said Amaechi came and informed him that the President and APC had mandated Okoro to note that the three states of Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Abia were a must-win for the party and the president. He also alleged that Mr Amaechi promised him that the APC candidate in the Akwa Ibom election was ready to be paying Justice Okoro millions monthly once the Supreme Court made him governor.

Amaechi has come out to deny the allegation, but his response did not state whether he knows the house of the Justice Okoro and whether he has ever visited the judge’s house in the past.
