Coronation: Benin Wears New Look

BENIN CITY- The popular Oba Ovoranmwen Square in Benin City is currently wearing a new look, ahead of Thursday’s coronation of the Crown Prince of Benin Kingdom, HRH (Ambassador) Eheneden Erediauwa as Oba of Benin.

New structures, big banners, bright lights across different streets leading to the square were prominent features surrounding the Palace.

The Coronation ceremony which has since commenced over a week ago is expected to climax  tomorrow with the coronation and presentation of staff of office to the new Oba by the State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

The Urhokpota Hall, venue for the official coronation of the new Oba, has been given a face lift, with passers-by wanting to catch a glimpse of the newly erected  hall which is guarded by security personnel.

Meanwhile, loading points of commercial vehicles in the area have been temporary relocated so as to create some level of sanity in areas around the coronation venue.

Speaking with The Nigerian Observer an official of commercial drivers union, Mr. Sunday Izevbigie said the relocation became necessarily since the city will be  expecting a lot of visitors from far and wide, hence    the need to keep the kings square free from chaotic traffic situation.

Also speaking with our reporter, a commercial bus driver Mr. Oz, said it was necessary for the area to be cleared, noting that some commercial bus drivers most times hinder free flow of traffic.
