SON Raids Wuse Market, Confiscates Substandard Goods

The Standard Organisations of Nigeria (SON) has raided and confiscated various substandard goods, including razor blades and shaving sticks at various locations in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Officials of the FCT branch office of SON headed by Dr. Bartholomew Ugwu said the market raid of substandard goods would send strong signal to its manufacturers and traders who are bent on sharp practices.

Ugwu said that the raid was in continuance of SON campaign against substandard items.

He disclosed that the organisation also arrested some of the traders suspected to be behind the menace.

While fielding questions from journalists during the raid at Wuse Market on Tuesday, Ugwu insisted that the exercise was necessary to issue a warning signal to some people who are involved in the sharp practices adding that they would be brought to book.

“We have been enlightening the public and this is a way to ensure that the organisation can bark and bite at the same time. The market raid is to send signal to people that it is no more business as usual,” he said.

He therefore urged consumers to always ensure that they only buy NISmark of quality.

One of the traders, Alhaji Aliyu Wada admitted that he was aware that some of the shaving sticks confiscated from his shop at Wuse Market were of low quality because, “some of the shaving sticks break when being used.”

Similarly, another trader, Bello Shuabu, said he knew that the products confiscated were “not good but the time it was brought I travelled to Saudi Arabia.”
