The recent outburst of Barrister Solomon Dalung, the minister of sports and youth development, that the Super Eagles do not need to play at the coming FIFA World Cup in Russia, has been greeted with extreme repugnance.
Dalung in an interview with the Hausa Service of the authoritative Voice of America in Kaduna yesterday, November 18, said that it was not necessary for Nigeria to be at the World Cup because of dwindling financial resources, conspiracy theory, inability to win the trophy and football corruption.
However, the minister’s statement coming at a time that there is a renewed belief in the Super Eagles, has attracted heated responses from football loving Nigerians.
While many Nigerians believe that the minister’s comment has officially confirmed him as a total stranger to sports, others have vented their anger towards President Muhammadu Buhari for his appointment.
Dalung? Our sports minister is a joke like the man who appointed him. l can’t be wasting tweets on people that are not serious

Nigeria does not need to attend World Cup in Russia- red beret Dalung. How is it that this man still has a job? — Ghost (@codenamemarcus) November 19, 2016
Solomon Dalung is the worst example of competence any where in Nigeria.
The most demoralising thing is his consistent show of incompetence.

President @MBuhari should know that Solomon Dalung and co are the reason people like @atiku will start campaigning for 2019.

What’s wrong with Dalung? Why is he this unwise? — Fred Adéwolé 👑 (@Fred_Amare) November 19, 2016
Truly, the number of incompetent guys in this government is embarrassingly alarming.
Dalung exudes incompetence.

Dalung needs to tender his resignation (like that’s going to happen), then begin to work to save himself from his pessimistic nature. — Alaye (@Ajebutter) November 19, 2016
@City1051 That’s what happens when “natives” man sensitive positions. Solomon Dalung does not qualified to manage sport ministry… Sack!
