Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan clocks 59 Sunday November 20, 2016. He will be remembered for the things he did during his tenure as Nigeria’s number one citizen.

2013 Nations cup

In February 2013, Nigeria won the African Nations Cup under late Stephen Keshi who was the coach of the Super Eagles, and the success was recorded in South Africa after 19 years that Nigerians have waited for the AFCON trophy.

Prior to the start of the 2013 AFCON, Goodluck Jonathan charged the Super Eagles to bring the African Nations Cup trophy, and the Eagles did not disappoint him as they won the cup to the delight of many Nigerians.

2. 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup

On November 8 2013, Nigeria Under 17 national team known as the Golden Eaglets won the fifteenth edition of the FIFA U17 championship held at the United Arab Emirates beating Mexico 3-0 in the final. Goodluck Jonathan’s encouragement was of great help to Manu Garba’s led team.

3. 2014 AWC

On October 27, 2014, the Super Falcons of Nigeria put smiles on the faces of many Nigerian fans by winning the African Women Championship beating Cameroon 2-0 in the final duel in Namibia.

4. 2014 CHAN

Under the administration of Goodluck Jonathan, Nigeria won bronze at the 2014 African Nations championship beating Zimbabwe 1-0 in the third place match played in Cape Town, South Africa.

5 .2015 AYC U20

On March 22, 2015, Nigeria’s Flying Eagles won the African U20 Youth Championship beating hosts Senegal 1-0 in the final match. Bernard Bulbwa netted the only goal that gave Nigeria the trophy.

6. 2014 Common Wealth Games

At the 2014 Common Wealth games held in glascow, Nigeria ended up with 11 gold, 11 silver and 14 bronze medals finishing as the 8th best in the overall rankings.

7. 2014 AYG

On May 31, 2014, Nigeria U15 boys emerged champions in the football event at the Gaborone 2014 African Youth Games held in Botswana beating Swaziland 3-1 in the final. Goodluck Jonathan was happy with the performance of the Nigerian boys and hosted them after the championship.
