Read how a child trafficker dressed to kidnap children in Delta

Leader of a child trafficking syndicate, Emmanuel Udeagwu, on Saturday, confessed to have stolen and sold over nine children from unsuspecting parents, even as he said that he stole one of the children dressed as a woman.

Udeagwu was among the over 25 criminal suspects who were paraded by the police in Asaba, the Delta State capital. The 37 years old man told journalists that he had been in the business for the pass seven months and had stolen children between ages 2 and 3 which he sold for between 200,000 and 300,000.

He said one of the children he stole was sleeping in the verandah of their house and as soon as he drove his motorcycle nearby and discovered that nobody was around, he picked the child on his motorcycle and zoomed off.

The 37 years old welder, who lives in Issele Uku, headquarters of Aniocha North Local Government area of Delta State, explained that he was lured into the child trafficking business by a woman, who told him that it was a lucrative business.

Although he said his children are in primary and secondary schools in the state, he specialised in stealing other children to take care of his own children.

“In one place I gave a child money to buy me recharge card, as soon as the child left, I picked the one around and left. It was a 2 year old child and I sold him for N250,000”, Udeagwu explained.

The state commissioner of police, Ibrahim Zanna, said the recipients of the stolen children are one madam Uju and madam cash who in turn sell the children to propsective buyers across the River Niger.

The children were said to have been stolen from Ebedei Adonishaka, an agrarian community in Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State.

It was learned that he kept the children with his wife, but she denied that she was his wife, insisting that they were only friends but not a couple.
